Is this the Year of BlackBerry?

Why We Should Give BlackBerry a Chance

Now, they might not have had the best reputation for the past few years, but I believe BlackBerry has a chance for a huge comeback. With all the new technology smartphones have now, I think it’s time we give BlackBerry a fair chance. With the new BlackBerry models slated to release around mid March, who knows, they might come to surprise you. Considering they were the tech titans of the early 2000’s I feel like we at least owe them the benefit of the doubt. Here are some reasons why:

HTC Thunderbolt Finally Gets an Upgrade

Posted by Cellular Chloe on Feb 5, 2013 11:30:00 AM

Sometimes I forget that people actually keeps phones until they have an upgrade available which is about 20 months because I generally don't have a phone much more than 3. Its a blessing and a curse. By the time I get it all fine tuned just the way I like it, it's time to give it up and start all over again. So don't be hatin' on me!

Windows Phone 8 Takes On the Powerhouse Smartphones

Posted by Cellular Chloe on Nov 13, 2012 4:27:00 PM
Chances are you aren't a geek like me, having worked in this industry for 12 years, so you probably don't know that Windows phone sales actually outranked the iPhone for the first 2 years while the "smartphone" category was still in its' infancy.

I was rather fond of my first Windows 6 phone, in fact, I'm almost positive it was my very first "smartphone," as I was never a huge Blackberry fan. After the enormous learning curve, it honestly was very clunky, I could get my email, use the 5MP camera and look at pictures on a large touchscreen, albeit resistive. The mention of the large touchscreen was meant to poke fun at the Blackberry. That 3.2" screen was heavenly!

Apple's iPhone and Android eventually romped right over Windows and Blackberry, taking over the marketshare. So for the last few years we have been talking about the battle between Apple's iOS and Android. WP8 will be be jumping back into the ring and I think it's coming strong. Microsoft is admittedly spending more on this "launch" than they've ever spent in their history. The question I am most asked is, which Operating System is better. More often than not, they mean between iOS and Android but I should prep you for the third OS that's making a strong comeback.

Very intuitive Interface makes for a short learning curve.
All devices are running the same version.
Devices running on iOS are extremely stable. No freezing or locking up.

Extra Jelly Bean Flavors Added With Android 4.2

Posted by Cellular Chloe on Nov 2, 2012 4:52:00 PM

Google is at it again. Along with announcing their new lineup of Nexus devices, Google threw in Android 4.2. There were many rumors out there that this new update would be the next software version following Jelly Bean (affectionately thought to be Key Lime Pie-which is my fav desert) but that wasn’t the case. With 4.2 came awesome new features, some that I’m totally amped to try out.

Photo Sphere

Google had a minor yet major update within their camera. Photo Sphere allows the user to take multiple pictures at once in multiple directions and it’ll blend them all into a pretty little sphere. Not only can you view these on your phone as a sphere, but you can also add them to Google + and Google Maps right from your phone.

Have you been getting sick of your drab lock screen photo? With this new feature you can either set up a slideshow of what pictures you have on your phone or set up information to scroll through from Google Currents. Kinda livens things up a bit.

Wireless Mirroring

This feature seems great on the outside, but it has a catch. Aside from the ability to mirror almost anything you're doing on your phone, I.E. videos, Facebook, YouTube and more, you can’t really do it without a wireless display adapter and an HDMI- enabled TV.

Multi-User Support

I think this is my favorite part of the new update. With this, you can share your tablet experience with others. Instead of cluttering your main screen with someone else’s apps, you can set up a secondary user. On the other side, you’ll find you can have separate apps, backgrounds, lock screens, widgets, games, etc. Sadly, this option will only be available for Tablets.

Gesture Typing

Google is taking their keyboards to the next level. I’ll admit that it’s very reminiscent of the Swype app but I think Google is taking a great forward step. Not only do you slide your finger from letter to letter, but it’ll also anticipate and predict your next word for you.

Google Now

This really isn't new for anyone who already has Jelly Bean 4.1. Google made due on their promises and they added more cards to the Google Now stock.

In the latest update, you’ll get

  • Flights
  • Hotels
  • Restaurant Reservations
  • Events
  • Packages
  • Movies
  • Concerts
  • Stocks
  • Developing Story & Breaking News
  • Nearby Attractions
  • Nearby Photo Spots

I can’t wait to try out all these new features. If you're just as excited as I am, you’ll have to wait a little bit. So far, the only devices to get this new version of Jelly Bean will be the newly announced Nexus 10 and Nexus 4.

 Peace Out

iOS v. Android v. WindowsPhone

So Many Phones, So Little Time. Which OS(Operating System) is Right for You?

If you are already due for an upgrade or expect to be relatively soon, I have 2 words for you. Good Luck.
There are so many phones out there and it's never going to slow down. Well, at least not before the end of the year. Starting today we are officially in the 4th quarter of the year and that means we'll be seeing even more before the holidays.
So what it all boils down to, unless you are a slave to your OS(Some people on iPhones will never switch no matter how great Android is) is what is the best OS for you? Two months ago I'd only be talking about Android and iOS but on October 26, WindowsPhone is making a comeback with Window 8 and they have some really sweet devices coming. Soon it may become a three-way battle if Windows8 is well received. It's a nice clean OS and I for one am looking forward to getting my hands on one. I am not including Blackberry because their Marketshare is very low. Here are a few fun iOS vs. Android cartoons. I never get sick of these!
If you are trying to pick a new smartphone, your best bet is to decide which OS is best for you.

Upgrade? Update? Upgrate? Is my Android Phone Getting One?

Posted by Cellular Chloe on Mar 15, 2012 9:14:00 AM

Ice Cream Sandwich

If you happen to be sporting a Motorola Droid X2 in your back pocket (or in your handbag) you'll be happy to know that there is an update headed your way. Well, headed the phone's way, so until you get it, keep the phone out in the open, not in a pocketbook or at the bottom of a bookbag or in your pocket. That's why sometimes others get their upgrades faster, because their phone caught the signal first. If you are still reading this, you are either extremely gullable or you know what a goofass I am. Of course, none of that is true! Your phone will get the upgrade OTA (Over-the-Air) regardless of where it is! What you can do however is pull in the upgrade if it's available by going to Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Updates. It'll either say, "Your device is up to date!" or if it is available to you. it will alert you that you have an OTA update.
