Going to a Sporting Event? Don't Forget Your Smartphone

Cool things to do at a CT Whale game or any other sporting event...

but since I like hockey and this is my blog, I'm going to talk about hockey! Just about every week I go to see my beloved local AHL team, the Hartford Whale. It's a great time and it's pretty local, easy to park etc. Even as long as I have been going, I am still finding things out about the behind the scene stuff. For example, I just found out that between the 1st and 2nd period, there is a "step and repeat" area where you can take fun pictures. That takes place behind section 110 in the atrium. Then you'll get your picture posted on the CT Whale Facebook page like these crazy fabulous kids!

Anyway, I'm here to tell you about some other fun things you can do at a CT Whale game or any sporting event!

A View From My Seat

I may not be the biggest sports fan and this app sounds cool even to me! Last year I was buying tickets to Louden, NH's Nascar race for myself and 5 others. The seats were in turn 4. I've always sat close to the start/finish line there in the past so I wasn't sure if these seats would allow me to see the whole front stretch. To me that's a deal breaker. If I can't see the cars pitting, coming off the 4th turn and going into the first, I'd almost rather watch it on TV.

Recently I had the pleasure to meet and walk about six and a half miles in New York’s Central Park with Gene Gurkoff. Gene is the is the CEO and founder of Charity Miles, which is essentially a smartphone app but it goes way beyond downloading yet another app to your phone.

Gene's grandfather has Parkinson's Disease. Like many of us, when someone we love is afflicted with a disease, we become increasingly aware of that disease and begin to notice fundraisers and walks, bracelets, etc that support the research related to finding a cure. If able, we sign up for walks or marathons and enlist our family, friends and co-workers to sponsor us and begin to try to do our part to help raise money for that cause that has become dear to us. This is exactly what Gene did and as you are probably aware, there are only so many times you can tap into your friend's and co-workers wallets.

When Technology and Social Media Play Nice Together

I could blather on all day about the benefits of social media in business and how using certain technology can make you more productive, which groups me with countless other social media professionals. What you can't get just anywhere are the ways to productively use social media and technology to waste the most time possible. Sometimes you just have to love it for the entertainment value it brings to our lives.
