Sometimes I get so caught researching Monday Matters that I forget I'm supposed to be writing about them!

This is more of a Wake Up Wednesday item, but the Samsung Haven is released by Verizon today. Essentially it is the Samsung Knack's replacement. Let's hope it doesn't freeze up like the Knack did. As great an idea as the Knack was for older people, having large keys, large fonts, no camera or extra bells and whistles, it was a failure in that the thing kept freezing up. I have heard many complaints about it and they are all the same. Verizon marketed it to older people with the large keys, and fonts and the ICE buttons for ease of use. Sounds great, but it would freeze up at least once a day (I know because my Mom has one). Imagine an older person who is not tech savvy (the reason for this device) has to get the battery out which isn't always an easy task for someone with arthritis and restart to unfreeze it at least once a day. Then when it froze up and they didn't know it, family members, trying to check in on them got no answer, causing a panic.
My mother is ready for a new phone. We had to go through 3 different Knacks before we got one for her that seemed to work fine. Do I go for the Haven or wait and see if people have problems with them first. I think I'll wait and see what happens. The one bright point in the whole story was that Verizon's customer service was couldn't have been more sympathetic and helpful trying to help me arrive at a good conclusion. Kudos to Verizon Customer Service and I really mean that.
Droid X WiFi Problems?
Reports are surfacing that the new Motorola is plagued with poor WiFi connectivity. Some have already been said to have screen issue.. It is unknown if the two issues are found on the same batch of phones. The screen issues seem to be pinpointed to the launch day phones. As far as WiFi, apparently on occasion, the X has some trouble connecting to a WiFi router, and once a signal is locked performance is not up to par.
If you are experiencing this issue, a quick fixes have been found. Change your network’s encryption from AES to TKIP and use the 802.11g standard rather than 802.11n. As far as the screen issues, some have reported tearing or banding while others have reported flickering. I have had neither screen nor WiFi issues with mine. Have you been experiencing trouble with yours?

Droid X Pix to Print in one Click.
Luckily, the good features on the Droid X far out weight the questionable. Like 1 hour hard copies of your photos. When you take a picture with your 8MP camera, you have some choices what to do with your pictures. Most of the "share via" options are obvious:
Bluetooth
Email
Facebook
Gmail
Online Album
PhotoSharing (a collection of social media sites all in one upload) Picassa
Text Messaging
Twitter
and now...Print to Retail
This allows you to send to a retailer local to whatever zip code you enter. So not only can you upload and have printed pictures for yourself at the "click of a button" but imagine entering a zip code next to your mother's house so she can go pick up some hard copies of her new granddaughter with her first pearly white tooth to show all of her friends. Could it be any easier to get hard copies of your prints? Not that it was hard before but this might bring new life to showing off some 4X6 glossies. There's nothing like having a hard copy of a picture.
Verizon's LTE Will be Launching Fast and Furious.
Can you wait just a few more months til Verizon's LTE service hits over 30 markets and introduces 2 data cards? Mark November 15th down in your calender.
Then mark May 2011 in as the date we may have seen up to 5 LTE devices from Verizon. Motorola, HTC, LG and RIM will all be in the running to be part of that elite line-up.
Then sometime in the last quarter of next year we should see some Android based tablets. Motorola, Samsung and LG will be vying for that spot. So just think in just 10 short months we'll be using some crazy fast 4G phones on what is already considered to be the best network. Then it'll be the best, fastest network, with of course the most seemless coverage. Seems like a long way off but time flies when you're having fun and I don't know about you but I'm having a blast.
OK, I gotta go finish putting myself in the movie Inception on my Droid Incredible!
Peace Out!
